At Norton Pond in Maine, I have lain in bed and heard the cry of the loon.  What I didn't expect was to be on the dock and actually have the loons swim close by.  My loon picture didn't come out as perfectly as this, so I was fortuante to come across this photo taken by Andrew Thompson of Wonalancet, NH.  His website is www.wildlightimages.com
